Ephedra extract or Ma Huang is a plant that has been used in Chinese medicine, the ephedrine alkaloids present in the ephedra plant and therefore in its extract have an amazing ability to help lose weight and burn fat. Ephedrine alkaloids act as both an α and β adrenergic agonist, stimulating the release of noradrenaline. Dopamine and adrenaline are the two neurotransmitters responsible for the feeling of euphoria. Caffeine inhibits the production of phosphodiesterase in the cell, slowing down the breakdown of cAMP. It also binds to and competitively inhibits adenosine receptors in the brain, leading to the release of epinephrine and an increase in cAMP levels.

Aspirin is a medicine called a “salicylate”. Aspirin is used to relieve pain, inflammation (swelling) and fever due to its non-selective cyclooxygenase inhibiting effect. Aspirin inhibits the production of prostaglandins outside the cell, which, together with caffeine, greatly prolongs the thermogenic effect and speeds up metabolism by maintaining elevated cAMP levels.
